Bill 7 Award

A Post Secondary Scholarship for Lesbian, Gay, Bi, Trans, 2-Spirited and Queer Students in Ontario

Supporting Bill 7

Invest in youth; invest in education; invest in our community’s future.

First we fought for basic human rights, now we fight to empower and support the next generation. The Bill 7 Award provides a way to support and empower queer youth through enabling them to have access to a post-secondary education.

We need the Bill 7 Award Trust to keep on growing, so that we can provide more financial support to more queer students, as the costs of tuition and other school expenses keep on rising. By making a contribution to the Bill 7 Award you are able to have a real and concrete impact on the lives of queer youth living in Ontario.

Making a Donation

Your generosity is very much appreciated! Investing in our youth by investing in education is a strong way to invest and build in our community’s future. Below you will find information about how you can support the Bill 7 Award Trust.

Donations to the Bill 7 Award Trust are tax-deductible, and a tax receipt will be issued for your donation. Receipts will be immediately issued electronically for donations made through the Canada Helps donation portal.

All the money we receive from individual donors goes either directly into the capital trust fund, or remains outside the capital fund and, along with interest generated by the capital fund, is disbursed in the next granting year.

How to Give

Individual Gifts

You may make a one-time or monthly gift by cheque or credit card to the Bill 7 Award Trust through the following methods:

  • Securely online: Please visit our Canadahelps.org donation portal. A electronic tax receipt will be issued to you immediately following your donation. In order to stay in touch with the Bill Seven Award Trust, it is recommended that donors provide CanadaHelps.org with permission to provide the Bill Seven Award Trust with email and/or mailing information. This is done in the Privacy Preferences section in the donation checkout process.
  • By Mail: Please print out our donor reply form and mail with your cheque to address on the form. Our address is also found on the right side of this screen.
  • Matching Gifts: Does your employer offer a Matching Gift program? Check with your Human Resources department to find out if your company will match your donation and double the impact of your gift.

Workplace Giving

A simple way to give to the Bill 7 Award Trust is through your workplace giving program. These programs permit you to designate an amount to be deducted directly from your paycheque. If you select this option, it is recommended that you give your workplace giving program permission to provide the Bill 7 Award Trust with your email and/or mailing information. This permits us to keep in touch with you and permits us to let you know how your donation is creating opportunity for LGBTQ students.

Estate Gifts & Bequests

Many people want to be able to share with others at the end of their lives. Estate gifts and bequests is a way to provide support for those you love and to help provide access to post-secondary education for others in your community. Ask your estate planner for ways in which you can support your community in your will. One way is to name the Bill Seven Award Trust as a beneficiary in your will, retirement plan or life insurance. You can also leave a bequest of money, to organizations you wish to support through your will. These donations can help build the capacity of the trust to offer increased numbers of scholarships and levels of support in years to come, as the cost of post-secondary education increases.

Gifts in Celebration or In Memorium

We can celebrate and remember our loved ones by investing in our community. This investment can help provide access to post-secondary education for many young members of our community, who many not have access to other sources of support for this stage in their lives.

You can donate in honor of a loved one by indicating this when completing the donation form at CanadaHelps. You many also do so by completing the donor reply form and mailing it with a cheque to the address on the right side of this screen. The Bill 7 Award Trust will send a card notifying a third party of the gift.

Professional, Social and Recreational Associations & Businesses
As members of associations and businesses, we have an opportunity to collectively support our community through increasing access to post-secondary education.
